Retake Policy

If you wish to retake an ICTS test, you must complete the registration process and make the appropriate payment by the registration deadline for the new test date. With the exception of the Basic Skills test, when you register to retake a test, you must retake the entire test.

You must register for the entire Basic Skills test each time you register and you will receive one test booklet containing each individual subtest. However, you may elect to complete only the subtests that you have not already previously passed. Basic Skills test scores received for tests taken prior to September 11, 2010, are not applicable.

Your ability to retake a test is subject to the following conditions.

CBT Retest Window

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has implemented an Illinois Certification Testing System (ICTS) testing policy that places a five-time limit on the number of test attempts for the same test. This policy, which went into effect on January 12, 2010, states:

"Subsequent to January 12, 2010, no individual may attempt to pass the same test more than five times in any combination of the two formats (computer-based or paper-based testing)."

If you take a computer-based ICTS test, you must wait 120 days before retaking the same test on computer.

Test Attempt Limit Policy

You may attempt to take the same test five times. Each attempt of all or part of the Basic Skills test counts toward the five-attempt limit.

If you have attempted the same test five times and do not pass, you will not be allowed to register to take the same test again.
