When to Take the Tests
You may take the ICTS at regularly scheduled test administrations, provided you meet registration deadlines and comply with registration policies.
If you are taking the Basic Skills test or the Test of Academic Proficiency as a condition for admission to an Illinois-approved educator preparation program or you are taking a content-area test in preparation for student teaching, you should consult with your college advisor or certification officer about the recommended time for taking the test. If you are in an Illinois-approved educator preparation program, you should check with your college advisor or certification officer about the best time for taking the APT test and any other required tests.
All other certification candidates—those from out of state and experienced Illinois teachers seeking additional certificates—should remember that they will not receive a certificate until they have successfully completed the required tests and complied with all other requirements. Further, candidates from out of state who are issued provisional certificates must remove all testing deficiencies within two full fiscal years of the issuance of the certificate, or the provisional certificate will be canceled.
